Russian films on Fajr Int’l festival lineup

A lineup of seven restored versions of Russian film is to screen at the 37th Fajr Int'l Film Festival.

A lineup of seven restored versions of Russian film is to go on screen in the Classics Preserved section of the 37th Fajr International Film Festival.

The titles on board include ‘At Home among Strangers, a Stranger among His Own’ (1974) by Nikita Mikhalkov, ‘Office Romance’ (1977) by Eldar Ryazanov, ‘Uncle Vanya’ (1970) by Andrei Konchalovsky and ‘Stalker’ (1979) by Andrei Tarkovsky.

The list goes on with ‘Walking the Streets of Moscow’ (1964) by Georgiy Daneliya and ‘The Rider Named Death’ (2004) by Karen Shakhnazarov.

The Soviet-Japanese co-production ‘Dersu Uzala’ (1975) by Japanese director Akira Kurosawa is also among the films to be screened at the event.

The films have been restored by Mosfilm which is one of the largest and oldest film studios in the Russian Federation and in Europe.

The Classics Preserved section will also present a total of 5 restored Iranian films, including 'The Runner' by Amir Naderi, 'The Scout' by Ebrahim Hatamikia, Dariush Farhang’s ‘The Spell’, 'Frosty Roads' by Masoud Jafari-Jozani, and 'The Last Action' by Varuzh Karim-Masihi.

Established in 1982, the Fajr International Film Festival celebrates cultural exchange, displays creative achievements of highly acclaimed cineastes and pays tribute to local and international films.

Supervised by Iran’s Ministry of Culture, the 37th edition of Fajr International Film Festival will take place in Tehran from April 18 to 26, 2019.
